Bill Chambless

Acoustic and electric guitars, Marimba, Tun-cul, additional percussion.
Bill grew up in a musical family, the son of a music teacher and church musician. He began playing guitar at age 12. Although he has played instruments ranging from trumpet to hand bells, the guitar has always been his instrument of choice. Bill got his roots playing in several rock and roll bands in the Southeastern U.S. Later, he studied jazz guitar and took on students of his own. Bill began performing with Sapien soon after the release of the Gathering CD.

Frank Chambless

Native American hand-carved wooden and rivercane flutes, ashiko drums, marimba, didgeridoo, percussion.
From the mountains of NE Alabama, Frank's lifelong interest is the exploration of natural and cultural worlds. This interest has carried him all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Central America, and North America. The places, people and traditional musical instruments of these adventures have served as the inspiration for his music.

Ted "Hawk" Hurst

Buffalo skin bass drum, Tun-cul, Rivercane flutes, Clap sticks, Bullroarer, and more.
Hawk is a master flute maker specializing in the traditional Rivercane flute unique to the native tribes of North America. He is also the owner and director of a camp in Todd, NC called the
Silver Water Retreat, where he teaches subjects such as Native American cultures, nature lore, storytelling, world mythology and musical instruments. E-mail Hawk

 

 

Keith LaBenne

Cello, Bello, Acoustic bass, fretless bass, five string bass and percussion.
From Jacksonville, Alabama, Keith is a creative cellist finding ways to invigorate and enhance the primal music created by Sapien. Keith is also a strings teacher in the Gadsden, AL city schools. He holds a bachelor of music education degree from Jacksonville State University. Keith has played with the Gadsden Symphony Orchestra, the Red Mountain Chamber orchestra, and is the principal cellist in the Jacksonville State University symphony orchestra.

Bill Pound

Classical and acoustic guitars, Silver flute.
Being born and raised in Macon, Georgia has had a profound influence on his musical upbringing. Perhaps it is this heritage, coupled with over twenty-five years of commitment to his art, that has made Bill the entertainer he is today. His years of touring experience allow him to sense a crowd's desires, and give him the ability to respond. From hard rock-n-roll to soft country, both the extremes and the middle ground belong to Bill when he's on stage. Bill has opened for acts as diverse as Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, Jimmy Buffet, Doc & Merle Watson, and Spyro Gyra, and he has performed with Jonathan Edwards, Greg Allman, Richie Havens and Mickey Thomas (currently with Starship). Mike "Fuz" Sanderson

Didgeridoo, Ashiko, Djembe, Congas, Bongos, Talking Drum, Marimbas, rivercane flute, Chimes, Turtle shells, Sticks and Bones. Fuz Sanderson is a wilderness instructor at the Green River Preserve near Brevard, NC, where he leads the Blue Ridge Expeditions for teenagers and brings in school groups for the "Education of Little Tree" programs. Steve "Snowbear" Taylor

Congas, bongos, ashiko, cedar flute, percussionist extraordinaire.
Snow Bear is from Haysville, NC, and for over 25 years he has traveled and taught traditional herbal medicine and wild foods, Earth skills, storytelling and percussion techniques. He hosts the well-known bi-annual Rivercane/Falling Leaves Rendezvous in the mountains of NC. Snow Bear's depth of traditional knowledge, gentle teaching ways, and percussion skills are well known.
